Gar-Field loses to Patrick Henry in Northwest championship game

(5/29/09) After a four hour trip to Roanoke, the Gar-Field boys soccer team had dreams of becoming the Northwest Champs. After three overtimes, and one round of penalty kicks, the game was still tied at one apiece. Finally it went to sudden death penalty kicks. Patrick Henry made theirs, Gar-Field did not. The Indian's will still go to the state tournament playing Tuesday at Cox in Virginia Beach.

Boys Soccer team wins Cardinal District Championship

(5/21/09) I came back for one night to take pictures of the boys Cardinal District Championship game between Gar-Field and Forest Park. What a game it was. Gar-Field scored twice in the first 10-minutes with goals by  Bryan Piriz and Luis Gutierrez to take a 2-0 lead. Then moments later, the Bruins got a fluke goal and then tied the score 2-2 going into the half. Gar-Field's  Carlos Menjivar scored for the Indian's the second half and Gar-Field held on for a 3-2 victory earning the trophy. Pictures from the game are posted here: Gar-Field vs. Forest Park

   Gar-Fieldsports.com is retiring

(3/15/09) After five years of maintaining this website, I'm at a point where I just can't put 100% into it anymore. What some people haven't realized over the years is that I maintain this site 100% on my own. I have funded and used my own equipment to keep it going for the students, parents, Grandparents and so on. I've always said when it comes to a point that I can't put 100% into it, I would not continue. It has come to that point. I have been honored to be a part of Gar-Field over the years. There are so many people to thank it wouldn't be fair just to name a few, but you know who you are. I'll find it hard to stay away and do plan on attending some games as a spectator. Good luck to everyone at Gar-Field.

Going out in style and with class

Season ends for Indian's in 59-42 loss to William Fleming

(2/26/09) It just wasn't in the stars for the Gar-Field boys basketball team on Thursday night. William Fleming was too strong on the boards getting offensive rebound after offensive rebound scoring more than half their points on second and third chance baskets.

It was a great season for Gar-Field and coach Andy Gray who once again got the best out of a team that the so-called experts picked to finish near the bottom of the Cardinal District. At one point this season, Gar-Field was 6-7 going 11-3 the rest of the way winning the Cardinal District regular season crown. It was a season to remember.

It may not have been in the stars for the Indian's on this night, but it was in the stars a long time ago for Gar-Field senior Kwasi Amponsah to become a great basketball player and person. It is not often a player comes along as special as Kwasi. The respect he received from the Gar-Field fans as he walked to the bench for the last time was an incredible and emotional moment. Let's not forget the six other Gar-Field seniors that include: Tyrell Pearson, Richard Attipoe, Jeremy Patterson, Josh Bowles, Alex Mackmore, and Marcus Blakeney. I will post pictures from the game Friday night.

Gar-Field defeats Potomac 37-34 to advance to the Cardinal District final Friday night

(2/18/09) Here we go again. Gar-Field will play Hylton for the fourth time this season Friday night for the Cardinal District Championship after defeating Potomac 37-34. Tyrell Pearson hit a 3-pointer with 15-seconds left for the Indians in another thriller. Potomac led the whole first half and through-out the third quarter with Gar-Field taking its first lead of the game 31-30 after Jeremiah Johnson's dunk with just over four minutes left. Pearson's 3-pointer came after the Potomac defender left him wide open to double team Richard Attipoe of Gar-Field. Potomac had a chance to tie but it was Pearson again with a big play when he stripped the ball from a Panther opponent to secure the victory.  See pictures from the Potomac game here: GF vs. Potomac 2/18/09

Cardinal District Champions of the regular season

Kwasi and the Miracles win the Cardinal

(2/17/09) Just like last year, the Gar-Field boys basketball team had to play one extra game to decide the regular season champion in the Cardinal District. Last year, the Indians lost to Potomac. This year was different. Gar-Field defeated Hylton on Tuesday night 51-49 in a thriller. After Gar-Field led 14-10 after the first, the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run and led 25-22 at the break.  Kwasi Amponsah started to take over in the third quarter for the Indians to pull Gar-Field to a 39-39 tie  going into the final period. With the game tied at 49 Kwasi put up a short jumper that fell short with less than 30-seconds left and got his own rebound, then was fouled and went to the line for a 1and 1. After hitting both shots Gar-Field played great defense forcing a Hylton turnover to secure the victory. Gar-Field will play Potomac at 5:30 at Forest Park high school Wednesday (2/18/09). See pictures from the Hylton game here> GF vs. Hylton

Kwasi gets hot in third...Indians pull away from Forest Park 58-46 for seventh win in a row

(2/13/09) In took Gar-Field senior Kwasi Amponsah two and a half quarters to find his shot. Once he did, it was bad luck for the visiting Bruins on Friday the 13th. It was a low scoring game throughout and that's just the way Gar-Field likes it. Gar-Field came out hot taking a quick 8-0 lead and led 20-18 at the break. Both teams warmed up in the third with Amponsah hitting a 3-pointer to give Gar-Field the lead 37-34 with under a minute left. The fourth quarter saw the Indians finally pull away from the Bruins with Gar-Field getting good inside defense from Jeremiah Johnson who also had three dunks in the game. Gar-Field finishes the season the hottest team in the Cardinal District and will play Hylton Tuesday for the regular season Championship.Pictures from the Foreast Park game are posted here: GF vs. Forest Park

    Revenge for Gar-Field over Woodbridge

(1/30/09) The last time Gar-Field played Woodbridge the Vikings defeated the Indians 54-39 in Gar-Fields building. The Indians got some revenge on the Vikings Friday night with a 48-45 victory at Woodbridge.  Woodbridge took an early 2-0 lead but never led again as Gar-Field took control of the game till the last three minutes. Woodbridge went on a 7-2 run to end the third quarter cutting into Gar-Fields once 14-point lead. The Vikings continued to chip away at Gar-Fields lead only trailing by three with just 7-seconds left. Woodbridge had a chance to tie at the buzzer with a three but the shot fell short.      Forest Park defeats Lady Indians 56-37

(1/29/09) The Forest Park Lady Bruins out-hustled, out-rebounded, and had way too many second chance shots for Gar-Field to overcome. Gar-Field managed to keep it close for much of the first quarter with the score tied at 13 at one point early in the second period. Forest Park went on a 17-4 run to close the half leading 30-17. Both teams came out with cold shooting in the third quarter with Gar-Field only scoring 4-points in all. Gar-Field never got closer than 16-points in the fourth. Kasee and Kelly lift Gar-Field to victory

(1/16/09) Senior Kasee Hilliard did not like the way the Lady Indians last game ended after a 19-point loss to Potomac. Tonight would be different as Kasee took matters into her own hands helping Gar-Field to a 19-point victory of its own over visiting Hylton 57-38.Junior Kelly Hartwell scored from inside and out for Gar-Field receiving many passes from Hilliard who had 14-assists. Gar-Field took the lead early and led 33-15 at the break and kept a double digit lead throughoutThe win was by far the Lady Indians most impressive of the season. Pictures will be posted sometime Saturday.

Potomac too much for Lady Indians

(1/13/09) The Gar-Field girls basketball team couldn't stop the visiting lady Panthers from Potomac on Tuesday night.
